Poetry at Carol Woods

November 14, 2016

On this fall day, we hope you enjoy some idle time, as beautifully expressed in this poem by one of our talented Carol Woods residents.

Idleness has its uses
One might look at a bird
and actually see it
without naming
Becoming the bird
in its way of being
And being surprised by a new intelligence.
Breathing in the breeze as it goes through the trees
And feeling the bending of the limbs
in the swaying of one's own body.
Taking in the red of the first changing leaves
Life emanating in this way from this tree's being.
There are indeed uses
for this liminal state
If only to release once and for all
One's own smallness.
