One of the desires of Carol Woods' founders was to establish a community where the people who reside here would be involved in every aspect of the community.

From the beginning, residents have been involved in everything from strategic planning to landscape design. More than 80 resident-run committees and special interest groups make Carol Woods a stimulating place to live. Residents have input into the governance, social and intellectual life of their community.

Carol Woods’ residents also look beyond our split rail fence to focus on the greater community around them. Many resident special interest groups exclusively target their service to other area organizations.

Carol Woods Involvement

The 80-plus resident-run committees are divided into three categories: advisory committees, service committees and special interest groups.

Ten committees are advisory in nature and meet regularly with department directors to advise and assist management in operational decisions. In contrast, the service committees address aspects of day-to-day living at Carol Woods, such as cultural opportunities, education, fitness and the environment. Special interest groups are self-initiated and form wherever there is an interest or need, so the variety of this type of offering is unlimited.

Community Involvement

For Carol Woods residents, social accountability is an integral part of the fabric in our community life.

Residents can often be found volunteering at the hospital, delivering Meals on Wheels or tutoring students. Additionally, many residents serve on the boards of local charitable organizations, and countless others pursue their passions through volunteering in ways that make a big difference in the world around them.
