Home Care

Carol Woods and A Helping Hand have created a powerful alliance to provide the highest quality home care for individuals and families in Orange, Durham, and Chatham counties.

Carol Woods and A Helping Hand Home Care

Our goal is clear—to offer home care services that will allow the people we serve to continue to live in their residences independently and safely.

We provide a full range of home care services

  • Personal assistance, including bathing and dressing
  • Meal preparation
  • Transportation to medical appointments and grocery stores
  • Companionship
  • Light housekeeping

The Carol Woods and A Helping Hand care team comprises certified nursing assistants, personal care assistants, nurses who perform home care assessments, and a cadre of community volunteers who provide companionship and transportation.

Carol Woods and A Helping Hand serve the home care needs of a diverse population in the region—from people in Carol Woods and other retirement communities to underserved individuals who don’t have the resources for essential home care services.

Our nonprofit model allows us to achieve these far-reaching goals. We provide home care for individuals with the resources to pay for our services. At the same time, we have a dedicated group of volunteers who provide free and subsidized home care for the underserved population in the region.

The formal relationship between Carol Woods and A Helping Hand, which began in 2018, is based on principles of social and economic justice.  We believe that the people we serve, regardless of their socio-economic status, should have options to live at home and independently. We believe that our caregivers and personal assistants should be paid fair, livable wages for their important work. And we are committed to building a just model for home care that is not based solely on profit but on improving the quality of lives for the people with whom we work and the people who deliver the services to them.
